College Football Predictions: Is Nebraska’s win total set too high? 7/13/17

Nebraska Season Win Total Prediction

Is Nebraska’s win total for 2017 set too high? Let’s take a look at the Cornhuskers’ upcoming season.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, Nebraska has a win total of 7 for the 2017 season. The Cornhuskers are also an 85/1 long shot to win the national championship and have the sixth-best odds to win the Big Ten behind Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State, Iowa and even Northwestern.

Bet College Football Futures Odds

After going 9-3 with losses at No. 11 Wisconsin 23-17 in overtime, at No. 6 Ohio State 62-3, and at Iowa 40-10 to close out their regular season, the Cornhuskers open at home in 2017 against Arkansas State. They’ll play two more non-conference games versus Oregon and Northern Illinois, respectively, before opening conference play versus Rutgers on September 23.

They likely won’t play their first ranked opponent until October 7 when Wisconsin travels to Lincoln, but the Cornhuskers will face Ohio State the very next week. Nebraska then plays three of its final five games on the road, including Purdue, Minnesota and Penn State. They’ll host Northwestern and Iowa in November.

College Football Over/Under Predictions: I think Nebraska is closer to a six-win team this season than an eight-win team, which is what they’ll have to win if you’re going to hit the over. This could be a transition year for Mike Riley’s program, as they’re forced to rebuild an offense that regressed significantly a year ago. The secondary is outstanding and the defense as a whole is solid, but the offense has plenty of work ahead of it to match up with the big boys in the Big Ten.
