Wisconsin started the season with a 59-10 win at home over Utah State, hitting the over on their own, as the total for that game was set at just 52 points. The Badgers were down 10-0 early on before scoring 59 unanswered points. Wisconsin put up a balanced offensive attack, posting 244 passing yards and 234 yards rushing while holding Utah State to just 304 total yards and forcing four turnovers. Alex Hornibrook was 15-of-23 passing for 244 yards and three touchdowns. Troy Fumagalli was his main target, as he caught five passes for 105 yards. The Badgers had a steady run game behind Jonathan Taylor and Bradrick Shaw, who combined for 171 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries. Shaw is dealing with a leg injury, though, and is questionable to play later today.
Florida Atlantic started the season with a 42-19 loss at home to Navy. The Owls went just under the 64-point total in the loss. FAU couldn’t stop the Navy run game, as the Midshipmen racked up 416 yards on the ground while holding FAU to just 40 rushing yards. FAU had 17 rushing attempts, averaging just 1.7 yards per carry. Daniel Parr led Florida Atlantic in the game by throwing for 281 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. Willie Wright caught three passes for 92 yards and a touchdown. It was certainly a lackluster opener for Lane Kiffin in his new role as head coach of the Owls.
The Badgers should continue to have success on offense in this game and could potentially get in the 50-point range once again. That leaves little for FAU to have to do. I am not sure the Owls will do much of anything on offense in this game. Wisconsin’s defense looked really good once it settled in against Utah State. Still, a funky play here or there can lead to some points for the Owls, so I am going to take my chance with the over. The Badgers have hit the over in four of their last five at home.
