THE PUBLIC LIKES: Virginia Tech. The big number hasn’t scared public bettors off Virginia Tech, which is receiving 68% of the tickets for today’s game.

HISTORICAL TRENDS LIKE: Virginia Tech. The favorite is 4-1 against the spread in the last five meetings between these two teams while the Tar Heels are winless at 0-4 against the number in their last four games against the Hokies. North Carolina is also winless at the betting window in its last six conference games, is 0-4 against the number in its last four games overall, and is 1-4 against the spread in its last five games coming off a loss. On the other side, the Hokies are 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 home games and have covered in seven of their last 10 games overall.

WHO WE LIKE: Virginia Tech. The Hokies are too good defensively to allow the Mitchell Trubisky-less Tar Heels to move the football regularly today. Virginia Tech ranks seventh in points allowed, surrendering just 13.7 per contest. The Hokies are also 23rd in scoring defense, which is remarkable considering they’ve already played Clemson and West Virginia. The Tar Heels haven’t done much of anything but lose this season and unless the Hokies get caught sleep-walking, VA Tech should roll today.
