Old Dominion vs. Virginia Tech Pick

As a four-touchdown favorite, will No. 13 Virginia Tech be able to handle covering such a large spread at home against Old Dominion today at 2PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Virginia Tech is favored at home in this game, as the Hokies are getting odds of -28 points against Old Dominion. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 57 points. These two will meet from Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia on Saturday. The game will air live on the ACC Network.

Old Dominion is 2-1 to start 2017, picking up wins over Albany and UMass while losing 52-23 against North Carolina. The Monarchs are just 1-2 against the spread, failing to cover in the one game it was the underdog. Old Dominion has an offense that is averaging just 23.7 points and 322.3 yards per contest. Blake LaRussa has been the leading passer with 358 yards and two touchdowns in three games, but he also has three interceptions. Jeremy Cox is the leading rusher with 158 yards on 53 carries. Defensively, Old Dominion is allowing just 25.7 points and 372.7 yards per game.

The Hokies are a perfect 3-0 to start the season, picking up wins over West Virginia, Delaware and ECU. Virginia Tech is 2-1 against the spread, failing to cover in the one spread that was greater than 28 points. Tech once again is led by its powerful defense. The Hokies are allowing just 13.7 points and 365.3 yards per game in 2017. On offense, the Hokies are averaging 40.7 points and 482.3 yards behind a balanced attack. Quarterback Josh Jackson has thrown for 829 yards and eight touchdowns without an interception this year. He also has 115 rushing yards and a score. He is one of three Hokies with over 100 yards on the ground this season. Cam Phillips is the top receiver with 27 catches for 417 yards and five touchdowns.

Bet on Old Dominion vs. Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech isn’t a team you typically look at winning by nearly 30-point margins. The Hokies have usually relied on solid defense and a ball-control offense. However, under coach Justin Fuente, the Hokies are putting up more big plays on offense. They face an Old Dominion team that allowed over 500 yards to North Carolina. While I can’t call Tech the UNC offense, it still has a lot of potential. VT has covered in six of its last seven games and in four of its last five at home. I think the Hokies put a hurting on the Monarchs today.
