Toledo vs. Western Michigan Prediction

Will No. 21 Western Michigan complete a perfect regular season when it plays host to Toledo today at 5PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Western Michigan is favored at home in this game, as the Broncos are getting odds of -9 points against the Rockets. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 70 points. Toledo has won five of its last six against Western, but the Broncos have covered the spread in two straight meetings.

Western Michigan is now a perfect 11-0 on the season following a 38-0 win over Buffalo last week. WMU is now 7-0 in the MAC, and 8-3 against the spread. They are just 3-3 against the spread in their last six games, though. Western still has to win this game to advance to the MAC Championship. Western has a great offense and a great defense. The Broncos are giving up just 17.7 points and 352.9 yards per game this season. They are especially tough against the pass, allowing only 198.2 yards per game through the air. Offensively, WMU is averaging 43.8 points and 508.9 yards per game. Zach Terrell has thrown for 2,890 yards and 27 touchdowns with just one interception while Corey Davis is one of the nation’s best receivers with 75 catches for 1,202 yards and 16 touchdowns. Jarvion Franklin has run for 1,228 yards and 10 touchdowns as well.

Bet on Toledo vs. Western Michigan

Toledo is coming off a 37-19 win over Ball State last week to move to 9-2 on the season and 6-1 in the MAC. The Rockets can advance to the MAC Championship with a win in this game. They are 7-4 against the spread this season but the Rockets are just 3-4 ATS in their last seven games. Toledo’s defense gives up 22.5 points and 390.4 yards per game while its offense averages 39.2 points and 536.5 yards per contest. Quarterback Logan Woodside has thrown for 3,653 yards and 40 touchdowns to lead the offense. He also has just seven interceptions. Cody Thompson has caught 56 passes for 1,126 yards and 10 touchdowns. On the ground, Kareem Hunt has run for 1,155 yards and seven touchdowns.

This is a big moment for Western Michigan. The Broncos are facing the next-best team in the MAC in Toledo, with everything at stake. I don’t see why Western Michigan won’t be ready, but this pressure could play a factor. Still, I like the WMU defense to really carry them in this one. While the offense should be able to score, the Western defense faces the tougher challenge, but will still find ways to make stops and give WMU a cover.
