College Football Predictions: Virginia Tech vs. Notre Dame 11/19/16

Virginia Tech vs. Notre Dame Prediction

Will Virginia Tech and Notre Dame have a physical, defensive battle when they meet up today at 3:30PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Notre Dame is a slim favorite at home, as the Fighting Irish are getting odds of -1 point against the Hokies. The over/under total for the contest has been listed at 54.5 points. These two have no recent meetings to consider.

Bet on Virginia Tech vs. Notre Dame

Notre Dame is coming off a 44-6 win over Army last week to move to 4-6 on the year and 6-4 with the under. The Irish have hit the under in five straight games thanks to their improving defense. Notre Dame is giving up 25.5 points and 371.5 yards per game. After giving up more than 30 points in four of their first five games, the Irish have held three of their last five opponents under 20 points. Offensively, ND is now averaging 31.3 points and 415.4 yards per game on the season. DeShone Kizer is the leader on the unit with 2,470 passing yards and 22 touchdowns while rushing for 440 yards and seven scores. He could be without one of his top receivers in this game, as Torii Hunter Jr. is questionable with a knee injury. Hunter has 38 catches for 521 yards and three scores.

Virginia Tech is coming off a 30-20 loss at home to Georgia Tech to drop to 7-3 on the season. The Hokies are 6-4 with the under this season, having hit the under in three straight games. The Hokies rely on their defense, giving up 21.2 points and 329 yards per contest. They are giving up just 184 passing yards per game this season, which puts them 15th nationally. On offense, Tech is putting up 33.2 points and 444.3 yards per game. The Hokies average over 180 rushing yards per contest, thanks to a committee of backs. Jerod Evans has 608 yards and six scores while Travon McMillian has 566 yards with four touchdowns. Evans has also thrown for 2,525 yards and 22 touchdowns with only four interceptions.

Virginia Tech is known for defense mostly, but the Hokies have been struggling as of late, giving up at least 24 points in three straight. Notre Dame may be able to find some offensive success, but I still think the Hokies will get some regular stops. Tech isn’t a dynamic offense either, but will have some success against the Irish. I look for both teams to be in the low to mid 20s today, but that should keep things with the under.
