According to oddsmakers from online sports book Mybookie.ag, the Midshipmen are 21.5-point home favorites over the Mustangs after the side opened at that same number. As for the total, it opened at 64.5 before dropping to 61.
The Records
SMU heads into play tonight with just one victory on the season. The Mustangs are 1-8 overall and 4-5 against the spread, while the Midshipmen are 7-1 straight up and 6-2 at the betting window. Navy’s lone loss came in a 41-24 defeat at Notre Dame on October 10.
The Pick
Assuming Navy doesn’t get caught in a letdown spot after upsetting Memphis last week, this should be a blowout. SMU owns one of the worst defenses in the nation, most notably a unit that is allowing 260.0 rushing yards per game this year. That puts the Mustangs at 122nd in the nation, which doesn’t paint a good picture for today’s game against the Midshipmen. Navy and its triple-option attack has the third-best running game in college football, averaging 326.5 yards per game. SMU has enough offense to stay within three touchdowns but the problem is the Mustangs will have a massive disadvantage in time of possession.
