According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Bulls are 2.5-point home underdogs versus the Owls after Temple opened as 4-point favorites. As for the total, it opened at 45 before dropping slightly to 44.5.
The Records
The Owls enter play with an 8-1 record, as their lone loss came two weeks ago at home versus Notre Dame. They’re also 7-2 against the spread while South Florida is 5-4 straight up and 6-2 at the betting window.
The Pick
It’s tempting to take an improved Bulls team looking for a signature win at home. They’ve covered the number in four of their last five games, including in a 22-17 victory as a 5.5-point underdog last week at ECU. The Bulls also nearly covered on the road against Navy two weeks ago but a fourth-quarter meltdown led to a 29-17 loss as a 6-point dog. But while USF is improved, Temple owns the 12th-best rush defense in the nation, allowing just 110.9 yards per game on the ground. They’re also 24th in total defense (335 total yards allowed per game) and 20th in points allowed (18.4). If the line were to shoot back up to 4, then USF has some value. But at 2.5, the Owls are too good to pass up. They’re not flashy, but they continue to get the job done.
