The Odds
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Longhorns are now a 1-point home underdog after the Red Raiders opened as 1-point underdogs. As for the total, it opened at 72.5 and that’s where the number currently sits.
The Records
Texas Tech enters play with a 6-5 record and is 6-4-1 against the spread this season, while Texas is 4-6 overall and just 4-6 against the number. The Red Raiders have also covered in back-to-back games while the Longhorns have failed to win at the betting window in two of their last three games.
The Pick
Texas Tech’s offense can be unstoppable at times but its defense is one of the worst in the nation. The Red Raiders are allowing 42.4 points per game, which ranks 122nd in all of college football. They’re also surrendering 546.8 yards of total offense on defense, which ranks 127th, and is allowing a whopping 259.9 rushing yards per game (123rd). Even with Texas’ top two running backs (D’Onta Foreman and Johnathan Gray) not expected to play, freshmen Chris Warren III and Kirk Johnson should be able to shoulder the load. Plus quarterback Jerrod Heard and Tyrone Swoopes can both beat opponents with their legs so the Longhorns shouldn’t have much trouble moving the ball on the ground. As long as Texas can get a few stops, they should come out of tonight with a victory.
