He struggled at times in 2011, but did enough to win the starting job. The Longhorns have their top four receivers back and top two rushers back from last year’s team as well. Defensively, Texas returns six starters. The Longhorns allowed just 22.2 points per game in 2011. The defense will be led by All-American Alex Okafor, who had seven sacks and 17 quarterback hurries last year.
Wyoming has had two winning seasons in the three years under Dave Christensen. The Cowboys have five starters back from an offense that averaged 26.1 points and 388 yards per game in 2011. Wyoming returns quarterback Brett Smith, who threw for 2,622 yards and 20 TD’s last year. The Cowboys also have two of their top three receivers back. On defense, Wyoming struggled in 2011, allowing 27.8 points and 432 yards per game. One thing the Cowboys did well was force turnovers, as they were +12 in turnover differential. The Cowboys return seven starters on defense, including three in the secondary.
In terms of Injuries, Wyoming kicker Daniel Sullivan is out for the season due to an illness while Texas kicker Anthony Fera is questionable for the game with a groin injury.
