Bet on Fresno State vs. Nebraska
Nebraska is in need of a big start to 2015 after going 6-7 in Mike Riley’s first year as head coach last season. This year should be better as the team has a second year in a new system and the Cornhuskers return a lot of talent on offense, led by Tommy Armstrong at quarterback. Armstrong also has Jordan Westerkamp back at receiver as well as leading rusher Terrell Newby. If the Huskers can improve on their defense that allowed 400 yards per game in 2015, they can find plenty of wins.
Fresno State was a hot mess last season, going 3-9 while giving up 38.1 points per game. The Bulldogs didn’t play very competitively in their losses, going 4-8 against the spread in 2015. This year’s squad is relying on a redshirt freshman to run the offense in Chase Virgil. He faces some competition at the position, however, so Fresno doesn’t seem confident in his ability. The amount of offensive improvement won’t matter much if the Bulldogs can’t improve on defense.

Fresno State isn’t a team that has much to offer right now. They have an offense with plenty of questions and a defense that couldn’t stop anyone last season. At least with Nebraska, they had some understandable reasons for struggling last year. The Huskers were in a new system and dealt with some injuries. On paper, Nebraska looks like it should be an improved team this season and today is likely a statement game for them to show they are back. Don’t look for them to hold back against the struggling Bulldogs.
