College Football Week 1 Picks Oregon State vs. Minnesota 9/1/16

Oregon State vs. Minnesota Pick

Minnesota is a sizable home favorite tonight versus Oregon State but will the Golden Gophers cover at 9:00PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Golden Gophers are now a 13-point home favorite over the Beavers while the total currently sits at 55.5 points. Both the side and total has seen significant movement off the original number posted by oddsmakers, as the Minnesota opened as a 10-point favorite before the number was bet up 3 points, and the over/under went from 51 up to 55.5.

Bet Tonight’s College Football Games

The Beavers were one of the worst bets in college football last season, failing to cover in nine of their 12 games in 2015. As you can imagine, they failed to cover in all scenarios, going 2-4 as a road underdog, 1-2 in non-conference games, 2-7 as an underdog home or away, and 2-4 as the road team. From a betting standpoint, it couldn’t have gotten much worse for Oregon State.

The Golden Gophers were inconsistent at the betting window last season but did cover in seven of their 13 games. As a home team, Minnesota struggled, failing to cover in four of its seven games. As a favorite, the Gophers split at the betting window, going 3-3 ATS in those six contests.

OUR PICK: Oregon State should be more competitive under Gary Andersen, who did a great job at Utah State. But the Beavers still enter the season as one of the worst teams in the nation. Can they hang with the Gophers tonight? It’s unlikely. Minnesota boasts a combination of senior quarterback Mitch Leidner and sophomore running backs Shannon Brooks and Rodney Smith in its offensive backfield. Improvements along the offensive line are also coming and with this being a home game, the Gophers should come out firing. Lay the points.
