College Football Week 1 Picks: UTEP vs. Oklahoma to fly over total? 8/30/17

UTEP vs. Oklahoma Pick

Will UTEP and Oklahoma combine to score enough points to push the total over on Saturday at 3:30PM ET?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Sooners are now 42.5-point home favorites versus the Miners after opening as a 48-point favorite. As for the total, the number hit the board at 66 but has been bet down to 62.5.

UTEP: Freshman running back Josh Fields is likely to see the field immediately for the Miners. Fields has drawn comparisons to Aaron Jones, who was selected by the Packers with the No. 182 pick in April’s NFL draft. “I can make people miss, I can go up top, I can run you over, so I can do a mixture of things,” Fields said.

OKLAHOMA: Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield has already drawn attention as a NFL prospect, at least from his own head coach. “He is an NFL quarterback, there’s no mistake about it, and he’s an elite thrower,” Lincoln Riley told Sports Illustrated, adding that Mayfield possesses a “creative arm” in his ability to throw at different angles and improvise on the fly when plays break down. Mayfield is also a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate in 2017.

OUR PREDICTION: The over has cashed in five of the Miners’ last seven games dating back to last season and is 7-3 in their last 10 games in the month of September. The under was cashing heavily in Oklahoma’s games at the end of last season but I think Mayfield will light up UTEP’s defense on Saturday. In fact, I wouldn’t be shocked if the Sooners hung 60 on the Miners this weekend.
