College Football Week 1 Western Michigan vs. USC Picks & Preview 8/30/17

Western Michigan vs. USC Pick

Will Western Michigan and USC score enough points this Saturday evening at 5:15PM ET to go over the betting total?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Trojans are now 27-point home favorites versus the Broncos after opening as a 24-point favorite. As for the total, the number hit the board at 55 but has been bet up to 58.

Bet College Football Week 1 Odds

WESTERN MICHIGAN: Tom Flacco decided to transfer to Rutgers in late July, leaving the starting quarterback job to Jon Wassink. Flacco was competing with Wassink for the starting job this spring, but now Wassink will be thrown into the fire this weekend. He was a three-star recruit in 2015 and has big shoes to fill after Zach Terrell handled the duties for P.J. Fleck (now at Minnesota).

SOUTHERN CAL: Redshirt sophomore Sam Darnold remains the favorite to win the 2017 Heisman Trophy at 4/1 odds. Last season, Darnold threw for 2,881 yards with 29 touchdowns and nine interceptions after taking over for the ineffective Max Browne several games into the season. Darnold is a thrilling player and could be drafted with the top pick in 2018 if he decides to leave USC for the NFL.

OUR PREDICTION: The over is 4-1 in the Broncos last five games dating back to last year and is 9-3-1 in the Trojans’ last 13 non-conference games. There’s going to be a learning curve for Western Michigan’s offense now that Terrell and Fleck are gone, but I still think they’ll score some points this weekend. This one will be close, but I do like the score to inch over the betting total.
