Can the Temple defense slow down the Connecticut offense enough to hit the under in Friday’s 7PM ET meeting?

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Temple is favored on the road, as the Owls are getting odds of -10.5 points against Connecticut on Friday. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 46 points. Temple has won and covered in four of its last five meetings with Connecticut. These two have hit the under in seven straight meetings.

Temple is coming off a 34-13 win over Cincinnati last week. The Owls have won three straight to improve to 6-3 on the season and 4-1 in the AAC. The Owls are 5-4 with the over as well. Temple has a great defense it puts on the field, as the Owls are giving up just 22.7 points and 306 yards per game. They allow just 163.7 passing yards per game. The offense is putting up 33.8 points and 405.3 yards per contest. Their run game has been their best asset, averaging 181 yards per contest. Ryquell Armstead and Jahad Thomas have combined for 1,238 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns this season while Phillip Walker has thrown for 1,990 yards and 13 touchdowns, but also has 10 interceptions.

Connecticut is coming off a 41-3 loss at ECU last week to fall to 3-6 on the season and 1-5 in the AAC. They are also 5-4 with the under this season. Connecticut has struggled on both sides of the ball, as the defense is giving up 27.6 points and 415.6 yards per game, including 290.2 passing yards per contest. Offensively, the Huskies are putting up only 18.3 points and 361.2 yards per contest. QB Bryant Shirreffs has thrown for 2,010 yards and seven touchdowns, but also has six interceptions. Arkeel Newsome is the leading rusher with 528 yards and four touchdowns.

The total is set low, but that is because of Temple’s defense. The Owls should be able to somewhat limit the UConn offense, but because this game is on the road, expect the Huskies to find a way to score some points. Temple has put up a total over 46 in their last seven games and their offense should be able to run right over Connecticut to put up a big number on its own. You will just need the Huskies to score a few times, which I think they will.
