College Football Week 12 Predictions: Wisconsin vs. Purdue 11/19/16

Wisconsin vs. Purdue Prediction

Will No. 7 Wisconsin have any trouble when it hits the road to face Purdue in Big Ten action today at Noon ET?

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Wisconsin is the heavy favorite on the road, as the Badgers are getting odds of -28 points against Purdue. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 48 points. Wisconsin has won 10 straight in this series and the Badgers are 9-1 against the spread in those 10 games.

Bet on Wisconsin vs. Purdue

Wisconsin is coming off a 48-3 win over Illinois last week to move to 8-2 on the season. The Badgers are also 5-2 in the Big Ten and 8-2 against the spread, including a 6-1 mark ATS in conference play and 4-0 ATS on the road. The Wisconsin defense has been the team’s strength, allowing just 12.7 points and 292.5 yards per game. They are holding opponents to just 191.5 passing yards per contest. On offense Wisconsin is putting up 26.2 points and 379.9 yards per game. The Badgers have a strong running game, as they are putting up 198.7 yards per contest. Corey Clement is the leading rusher with 928 yards and 10 touchdowns. Alex Hornibrook is the leading passer with 1,125 yards and seven touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Purdue is coming off a 45-17 loss to Northwestern last week to fall to 3-7 on the season and 1-6 in the Big Ten. The Boilermakers are 4-6 against the spread on the season, but just 1-4 against the spread in home games. Purdue is giving up 38.4 points and 466.9 yards per game this season on defense, including 248.8 rushing yards per contest. On offense, Purdue is putting up 25.1 points and 413.3 yards per game. They do have a reasonable passing attack, averaging 309.2 yards per contest. David Blough has thrown for 2,921 yards and 21 touchdowns to lead the offense, but also has 16 interceptions. DeAngelo Yancey has added 37 catches for 718 yards and seven touchdowns.

Purdue has had a number of lopsided losses this season and I suspect today will be another. The Boilermakers are likely to struggle with the Wisconsin pass defense. When it comes to the Badgers, they aren’t a great offensive team, but they should be able to overpower Purdue’s run defense. The combo of that with the Wisconsin defense should be able to allow the Badgers to cover.
