Gators gun for commanding W vs. Wildcats
Last Saturday, Florida was never in serious jeopardy of dropping its season opener. Yet coach Jim McElwain didn’t exactly lavish praise on his players after their 24-7 win over UMass.
This weekend, the Gators get a great chance to be more authoritative. Kentucky travels to Gainesville, kicking off the SEC schedule for both programs. Oddsmakers at online sports book BetDSI list UF as a 15.5-point favorite. The over/under is 49.

Even though the Minutemen surrendered 45-plus points four times in 2015, Florida put together very few long drives. New quarterback Luke Del Rio & Co. managed just 363 total yards. The lone positive: No turnovers were committed.
Perhaps things are destined to change with the Wildcats in town. The troops from Lexington haven’t prevailed at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium since 1979. They squandered an 18-point advantage several nights ago, too, losing 44-35 to Southern Miss.

Still, the Gators should pay special attention to Garrett Johnson and Tavin Richardson. UK’s top two wideouts combined for eight catches and 217 yards vs. the Golden Eagles. In fact, sophomore signal-caller Drew Barker seems to enjoy a nice rapport with his entire receiving corps.
Will Kentucky come up with enough crucial stops on defense, though? Considering the school’s inability to keep a Conference USA foe in check, we’re doubtful. Don’t expect UF to mess around here.
