College Football Week 2 Picks: Tennessee vs. Virginia Tech 9/10/16

Tennessee vs. VA Tech Pick

After a lackluster start to its season, will Tennessee light up Virginia Tech tonight at 8:00PM ET at Bristol Motor Speedway?

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Volunteers are 11-point favorites versus the Hokies while the over/under currently sits at 52 points. Tennessee opened as a 10.5-point favorite but the line has been bet up a half-point. The total, meanwhile, hasn’t moved off the original number.

Tennessee’s outstanding offense struggled against Appalachian State last Thursday in the team’s season-opener, scoring just 20 points against the Mountaineers. The Vols came nowhere close to covering as a 21.5-point home favorite and was in danger of losing the game until finally putting away App State, 20-13. Quarterback Joshua Dobbs was just 16-of-29 for 192 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Virginia Tech had a small fight on its hands early against Liberty but eventually pulled away for a 36-13 win last Saturday as a 31.5-point favorite. Jerod Evans completed 20-of-32 passes for 221 yards with four touchdowns and also led the Hokies in rushing, carrying five times for 46 yards. Isaiah Ford was VA Tech’s leading receiver, hauling in 11 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown.

OUR PICK: Don’t be fooled by Tennessee’s performance last Thursday night. A lot of national pundits and fans are calling the Vols overrated after recieivng a lot of hype this offseason, only to beat Appalachian State by seven in overtime at home as a 21.5-point favorite. Dobbs, Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara form one of the most explosive backfields in the nation and now that Tennessee had its opening-week scare out of the way, the Vols should roll tonight in front of the largest crowd for a college football game ever.
