Houston vs. Texas State Pick
No. 6 Houston hopes to avoid a letdown on Saturday when the Cougars hit the field to face Texas State at 7PM ET on ESPNU.
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Houston is the clear favorite in this game, as the Cougars are getting odds of -34.5 points against Texas State. The over/under total for the contest has been set at 65 points. Houston dominated last year’s matchup, 59-14. The two pushed the 73-point total.
Bet on Houston vs. Texas State
Houston improved to 3-0 on the season with a 40-16 win at Cincinnati last week in a game that was closer than the score indicated, but a few defensive touchdowns last allowed the Cougars to win big. The Cougars have now covered in five of their last six while hitting the under in all three games this season. Houston is now averaging 38.3 points and 475.7 yards per game on offense while holding opponents to 13 points and 257.7 yards per game. Greg Ward Jr. has thrown for 647 yards and three scores while rushing for 74 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead Houston.
Texas State fell to 1-1 on the season last week after losing to Arkansas 42-3. The Bobcats hit the under in the loss, their first under of 2016. Texas State was held to just 105 yards in the loss to the Razorbacks, while allowing 467 total yards, including 226 rushing yards. Texas State quarterback Tyler Jones was 11 of 26 passing for 83 yards in the loss. A far cry from his 418 passing yards and four touchdowns in a triple OT win over Ohio to start the year.

Houston’s defense has held better teams in check this season and Texas State should really struggle on offense, even at home. Houston isn’t quite the offensive power we thought it was after beating Oklahoma, but the Cougars should be able to score plenty in this game. The issue, when it comes to the total, is can you expect Texas State to put up enough to hit the over. I don’t think the Bobcats will.
