West Virginia has had an extra week to prepare for this game as they last played on the 10th, beating Youngstown State 38-21. The Mountaineers also hold a 26-11 win over Missouri at home, putting them at 1-1 against the spread. The Mountaineers are putting up 559 yards per game thus far, which isn’t too surprising for WVU, but it doesn’t seem to be leading to the same amount of points as usual. Skyler Howard has thrown for 642 yards and five touchdowns to lead the offense while Rushel Shell and Justin Crawford have combined for 325 yards rushing and two scores.
BYU fell to 1-2 on the season last week with a 17-14 loss at home to UCLA. The Cougars have had all three of their games decided by 3 points or less and they are now 3-0 against the spread this season. The BYU defense is giving up just 17.7 points and 349 yards per game right now, but the offense is only putting up 17 points and 338.7 yards per game. Taysom Hill has thrown for 628 yards and two scores, but has four interceptions. Jamaal Williams has rushed for 248 yards to lead the BYU offense.

West Virginia hasn’t really been battled tested yet, but the Mountaineers will be today. BYU has played the likes of Arizona, Utah and UCLA thus far. The Cougars won’t be scared of WVU. Clearly the Mountaineers have more offensive fire power, but the Cougars have the much stronger defense. Despite the lack of offense, BYU does have a veteran quarterback and a hard-nosed style of play that should help it keep this game close. I wouldn’t be surprised if BYU gets the upset and am confident it can cover this spread.
