Houston vs. Texas State Prediction
Will No. 6 Houston face any challenge when it takes on Texas State at 7PM ET on ESPNU tonight?
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Houston is a heavy road favorite, as the Cougars are getting odds of -34.5 points against Texas State. The over/under total is listed at 65 points. Houston has won two of the three meetings with Texas State, but the Bobcats have covered the spread in the last two meetings. This will be their first encounter at Texas State.
Bet on Houston vs. Texas State
Houston has gotten off a big 3-0 start with wins over Oklahoma and Cincinnati. The Cougars are 2-1 against the spread, with the only non-cover being in a 42-0 win over Lamar. Houston has been pretty unstoppable on offense right now, averaging 38.3 points and 475.7 yards per game while the defense is giving up only 13 points and 257.7 yards per contest. Greg Ward Jr. has thrown for 647 yards and three touchdowns to lead the offense while four different backs have over 100 yards rushing for Houston.
Texas State is 1-1 on the season after a 42-3 thrashing at Arkansas last week. The Bobcats were held to just 105 yards against the Razorbacks in the loss, so considering their offensive numbers in the triple-OT win over Ohio seems somewhat pointless. This will be the home opener for Texas State, which could be worth considering.

When we think of Houston, we think offense. However, it was really their defense that was most impressive against Oklahoma and is what allowed them to pull away late from Cincinnati. Ward Jr. is dealing with a bit of a shoulder injury that Houston may not want to test too hard, so he could see limited action in this game. While it may be tempting for Houston to try and beat Texas State worse than Arkansas did, I see the Cougars laying off the gas in this game to heal up. They may keep Texas State from scoring, but I don’t think Houston will put up enough to cover.
