College Football Week 5 Predictions: Miami vs. Duke 9/29/17

Miami vs. Duke Prediction

Will No. 14 Miami have any trouble with Duke when the Hurricanes go on the road tonight for an ACC contest at 7PM ET?

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Miami is favored on the road, as the Hurricanes are getting odds of -6.5 points against Duke. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 55.5 points. Miami has won three straight meetings with Duke, covering the spread in all three wins. Tonight’s game takes place from Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, North Carolina. The contest airs live on ESPN.

Duke is off to a surprising 4-0 start to the season, including a 1-0 mark in the ACC. The Blue Devils are also a perfect 4-0 against the spread overall and 2-0 ATS as an underdog. Duke has been led by its defense, which is giving up just 15.3 points and 261.5 yards per game. Their run defense is holding opponents to 65.3 yards per game. Offensively, Duke is averaging 40.5 points and 470 yards per game. Duke also has a balanced attack as Daniel Jones has thrown for 904 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 141 yards and three scores. Shaun Wilson and Brittain Brown have combined for 674 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.

Miami has played in just two games this season due to Hurricane Irma. The Canes are 2-0 with wins over Bethune Cookman and Toledo, going 1-1 against the spread. Miami wasn’t able to cover a 50-point spread in its opener. The Hurricanes are giving up just 21.5 points and 389.5 yards per game on defense this year. Offensively, Miami has looked good, averaging 46.5 points and 571 yards per game. The Canes look very balanced on offense as Malik Rosier has thrown for 550 yards and six touchdowns while Mark Walton has rushed for 352 yards and three touchdowns. Travis Homer has added 140 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Bet on Miami vs. Duke

Miami has relied heavily on its run game this season, but tonight will be a big test for that unit against the Blue Devils. Duke has been able to stop opposing rushing attacks, so I think that will pose problems for Miami. The Canes’ defense should be able to keep Duke’s offense in check, but I ultimately think Duke’s defense will keep this game within one score. The Blue Devils will be a tough out tonight for Miami.
