West Virginia vs. Syracuse Free Pick
(The Spread) – The Big East will be on display Friday night when Syracuse hosts No. 14 West Virginia at 8:00PM ET on ESPN.
WEST VIRGINIA: The Mountaineers have one blemish on their record this season and it came in a 47-21 thumping at the hands of LSU on September 24. Other than that, WVU is off to a great start at 5-1 and 3-3 against the spread. Quarterback Geno Smith leads the team with 2,159 passing yards while Stedman Bailey has five touchdowns on the year. The over has also hit in all but one of the Mountaineers’ games this season, including in five straight games.
SYRACUSE: If the Orange want to keep pace in the Big East they’ll need a victory tonight. They’re currently staring up in the standings at teams like West Virginia. and if Syracuse hopes to contend, it has to play better than the 45-14 drubbing it took last weekend at PITT. The Orange are 4-2 overall this year and 2-4 against the spread, while the over has hit in four of their six games. Antwon Bailey leads the team in rushing with 553 yards, and has also scored a team-high five touchdowns.

ODDS: Not surprisingly, West Virginia is a double-digit favorite in this one. Oddsmakers have installed the Mountaineers as a 14-point favorite and with the public backing WVU tonight, it wouldn’t be shocking to see the number reach 14 by kickoff. The over/under total for this game is currently sitting at 59 points at most books.
FREE PICK: Take West Virginia. PITT proved last week that Syracuse isn’t ready to hang with the tough teams in the Big East and while the Orange may keep things close at home, the Mountaineers should eventually get rolling. According to latest college football trends, the road team is 6-0 against the spread in the last six meetings between these two teams and the Mountaineers are 5-0 ATS in their last five road games against the Orange. West Virginia is also 7-3 ATS in its last 10 games versus Syracuse overall, while the Orange are just 1-4 ATS in their last five overall games and 1-4 ATS in their last five games as a home underdog.
