East Carolina Pirates Game Notes
East Carolina junior QB Holton Ahlers completed 38-of-50 passes for 330 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in Friday’s 34-30 loss to Tulsa. Explosive plays were not really on the menu for ECU. They managed to find a few threw the air, but seeing as they passed 50 times, Ahlers and the Pirates offense really did not find as many big plays as they needed to, especially in the second half of this game. Only three of Ahlers’ 50 passes earned more than 25 yards. To his credit, Ahlers did do quite well in the short area to keep the offense chugging along, but it was not enough to match the firepower Tulsa’s offense showed in the final two quarters. ECU are now 1-4 and will face Tulane a week from now.
Cincinnati Bearcats Game Notes
Cincinnati redshirt junior QB Desmond Ridder completed 17-of-27 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown with one interception while also rushing for 103 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries in Saturday’s 38-10 win over Houston. Ridder (6’4/215) had a good day at the office as the Bearcats moved to 6-0 on the season, especially on the ground. This was the redshirt junior’s second 100-yard rushing effort of the season, with the first being a 179-yard day against SMU two weeks ago. But Ridder’s arm remains the biggest question for a team that has hopes of crashing the College Football Playoff party. While the completion percentage was fine, Ridder threw an interception and also missed what could have been a couple big plays in the passing game. He’ll look to do more in that area while also making plays on the ground next week when the Bearcats take on East Carolina.
East Carolina vs. Cincinnati Betting Prediction
The Pirates are winless at the betting window in their last five trips to Nippert Stadium and are just 3-7 against the number in their last 10 games versus the Bearcats overall. East Carolina is also 4-9 against the spread in its last 13 games coming off a double-digit loss at home, is 15-38 against the number in its last 53 games when facing an opponent with a winning record and is 7-17-1 ATS in its last 25 games played in the month of November. On the other side, the Bearcats have covered the spread in four of their last five games, are 5-1 against the number in their last six games coming off a win and if they can avoid merely walking through the motions tonight in what should be an easy win, they should also cover.
