Both team come into this game at 1-0 overall. East Carolina is 1-0 against the spread as well as the Pirates defeated Appalachian State, 35-13, at home. South Carolina is 0-1 against the spread as the Gamecocks narrowly defeated Vanderbilt, 17-13, on the road. ECU has actually won five of its last eight meetings with South Carolina.

South Carolina got all it could handle from Vanderbilt last Thursday, but the Gamecocks did enough to win. South Carolina held Vandy to just 276 yards of offense, but the Gamecocks had only 272 yards of their own. Quarterback Connor Shaw dealt with a shoulder injury during the game and ended up just 7-of-11 passing for 67 yards. Shaw is listed as questionable for this game. Shaw did run for 92 yards in the game, which complimented the effort of running back Marcus Lattimore, who had 110 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
East Carolina was actually out-gained by Appalachian State, 419-390, in the Pirates’ season opener, but they still managed to win. The Pirates forced three turnovers on defense, scoring a touchdown in one of them. They also had a kickoff return for a TD by Lance Ray. Quarterback Rio Johnson threw for 242 yards and two scores to lead ECU while running back Michael Dobson had 78 yards on the ground on 19 carries.
In terms of Injuries, South Carolina tight end Drew Owens and safety Marcquis Roberts are both questionable for the game due to knee injuries. ECU defensive tackle Michael Brooks is questionable with a knee injury while linebacker Montese Overton is questionable due to a concussion.
