East Carolina Pirates Game Notes
East Carolina junior QB Holton Ahlers took part in Saturday’s practice after missing time due to a positive COVID-19 test. Ahlers (6’3/235) was held out of last Saturday’s (October 17) home game vs. Navy due to his COVID-19 diagnosis, but he was cleared to rejoin his teammates in practice this past weekend as the Pirates prepare for an October 30 game at Tulsa. With the junior quarterback having tested out of protocols after spending ten days in isolation, he appears to be good to go for the matchup with the Golden Hurricane. East Carolina is still awaiting decisions on running backs Demetrius Mauney and Darius Pinnix, linebacker Damir Faison and safety Tank Robinson. All four were held out of the Navy game due to contact tracing.
Tulsa Golden Hurricane Game Notes
Tulsa redshirt senior QB Zach Smith completed 16-of-24 passes for 233 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in Friday’s 42-13 win over USF. Make that two impressive performances for Smith in a row. While this one is not quite as impressive as last week’s upset win over UCF, Smith (6’3/224) still did more than enough to command Tulsa’s high powered passing offense to blowout the Bulls. His first quarter interception was very quickly amended, especially so in the third quarter, when the Golden Hurricanes racked up 21 points to really shut the door on USF. Tulsa will play ECU next week on Halloween eve.
