Eastern Michigan Eagles Game Notes

Eastern Michigan redshirt junior QB Preston Hutchinson completed 21-of-35 passes for 241 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in Wednesday’s 27-23 loss to Kent State. Hutchinson started a few games in 2019, but this season is his first as the full time starter at EMU. His debut for the year went as mediocre as it could have. Hutchinson was not outright bad, and he did have to deal with a relentless barrage of pressure in the pocket, but he struggled to find enough consistency in the quick game or firepower down the field to keep up in this one. He found a smidgen of both, but not enough to allow the offense to lean on anything. Hopefully for EMU, Hutchinson can pick things up next week against Ball State.

Ball State Cardinals Game Notes

Ball State redshirt senior QB Drew Plitt completed 19-of-32 passes for 309 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in Wednesday’s 38-31 loss to Miami (OH). Given how violently Miami (OH)’s front destroyed Ball State’s offensive line, Plitt was more than fine in this game. He missed on a couple more passes than he should have and took six sacks, but he did still find a number of explosive plays down the field that helped keep Ball State’s offense in this one. The defense capitulated, though, and Plitt could not quite lift the offense above 31 points. Plitt threw 24 touchdowns to seven interceptions in 2019. Ball State will take on Eastern Michigan next week.
