Ohio St. vs. Virginia Tech Odds
No. 1 Ohio State looks to live up to its preseason ranking tonight when it hits the road to face Virginia Tech at 8PM ET on ESPN.
According to oddsmakers at GTBets, Ohio State is the favorite in this game, as the Buckeyes are getting odds of -13.5 points against Virginia Tech tonight. The over/under total for the game has been set at 53 points. These two met last year with Virginia Tech handing Ohio State a 35-21 loss at home. It was the only loss Ohio State had last season.
Ohio State was 14-1 last season and 8-0 in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes won the first-ever college football playoffs to win the national title. OSU was 10-5 against the spread while going 12-3 with the over. Ohio State has covered the spread in four straight non-conference games as well. Urban Meyer is in his third season with Ohio State, going 38-3 to this point, but he has his most talented team yet. Former quarterback Braxton Miller has moved to an H-Back while J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones are battling for the starting QB position, though both could play. Along with all that talent, the Buckeyes also have Ezekiel Elliott, who rushed for over 200 yards in the Big Ten Championship, Sugar Bowl and National Championship Game last season.
Virginia Tech was 7-6 last season and 3-5 in the ACC, finishing tied for fifth in the ACC Coastal division. The Hokies were 6-7 against the spread in 2014 while going 7-5 with the under. The Hokies are just 3-12-1 against the spread in their last 16 games in September. Frank Beamer is entering his 29th season as head coach of the Hokies. He is 231-115-2 in his time with the program. The Hokies haven’t had a 10-win season since 2011. Beamer is hoping that Michael Brewer can lead VT to 10 wins this year. He threw for 2,692 yards last season with 18 touchdowns, but also had 15 interceptions. In the win over Ohio State, he had 199 passing yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
