CINCINNATI, OH (The Spread) – The second week of the college football season gets underway on Thursday when Cincinnati hosts Pittsburgh at 8PM ET on ESPN.

Cincinnati is playing in its first game of the season while Pittsburgh is 0-1 overall and 0-1 against the spread after a 31-17 loss at home to Youngstown State. The road team has won the last three games in this series.

Oddsmakers see Cincinnati as the favorite in Thursday’s game. The Bearcats have been given odds of -4 points against Pittsburgh, while the over/under odds have been said at 48.5 points. Cincinnati went 10-3 last season in its second year under coach Butch Jones. The Bearcats tied for first in the Big East last year and return 13 starters in 2012. The offense only brings back four starters from a group that averages 33.3 points and 386 yards per game. They lose running back Isaiah Pead and will break in a new quarterback in Munchie Legaux. Legaux saw some action last year and threw for 749 yards. The Bearcats return their top two receivers from last year to help Legaux. Defensively, Cincinnati allowed 20.3 points and 356 total yards per game in 2011. The defense returns seven starters, led by safety Drew Frey, who had 73 tackles and 2 INTs in 2011.
The Panthers suffered an embarrassing loss at home last week to Youngstown State. The Panthers matched Youngstown in total yards, acquiring 369 total yards to 381 for Youngstown. The Panthers did have two turnovers in the loss. Quarterback Tino Sunseri threw for 239 yards and one touchdown in the loss while Ray Graham rushed for 71 yards on 14 carries.
In terms of Injuries, both teams come into the game healthy.
