Florida Atlantic Owls Game Notes
FAU HC Willie Taggart has yet to name his starting quarterback for Friday’s game at FIU. Redshirt junior Nick Tronti (6’4/215) started the Owls’ 10-6 win over Western Kentucky but he wasn’t particularly impressive, as he completed 7-of-16 passes for 108 yards while being sacked four times. The redshirt junior’s struggles may have opened the door for redshirt freshman Javion Posey, whose lone pass attempt in the win over WKU was intercepted. But Posey was solid running the football, as he ripped off a team-high 60 yards and a touchdown on nine carries.
Florida International Panthers Game Notes
FIU freshman QB Stone Norton is listed as the starter for Friday’s game against Florida Atlantic. Norton (6’3/200) will get another shot at the starting gig after a decidedly underwhelming performance in a 19-10 loss to FCS opponent Jacksonville State. He completed just five-of-14 passes for 66 yards and a touchdown while ceding a couple of series to backup Max Bortenschlager, who only completed two-of-five passes for 18 yards during his abbreviated stint. It’s worth noting that FIU has been hit as hard as any program in the country by postponements, as they have had four games moved thus far. Florida International will try to secure their first win of the season this Friday against in-state rival Florida Atlantic.
Florida Atlantic vs. Florida International Betting Prediction
The underdog has been profitable in this series, as has the home side. The underdog is 6-2 against the spread in the last eight meetings between these two rivals while the home team has covered in five of the previous six series meetings. The Owls are also 0-7 against the number the last seven times they’ve played on Friday and are 2-5 against the number in their last seven games versus a team with a losing record. On the other side, the Panthers are 9-1 against the spread in their last 10 games as a home underdog, are 5-2 against the number in their last seven games played in the month of November and have covered 12 of their last 17 games as an underdog.
