Florida Atlantic Owls Game Notes
Florida Atlanta redshirt freshman QB Javion Posey completed 7-of-15 passes for 107 yards with two interceptions in a 20-3 loss to Georgia Southern on Saturday. This was not a great offensive football game. Or great football game. Posey really struggled, and was benched in favor of Nick Tronti after his second interception. His ability to make plays with his legs remained obvious (61 yards on the ground), but there’s a long way to go as a passer. Fortunately, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound quarterback has time as a redshirt freshman. The Owls fall to 5-2, and take on Southern Miss on Thursday.
Southern Miss Golden Eagles Game Notes
Patrick Magee of the Sun Herald reports that Southern Miss redshirt sophomore QB Trey Lowe is expected to start on Thursday against FAU. The Southern Miss QB situation has been turbulent this season. Throughout that turbulence, Lowe (6’2/218) has gotten some chances before, earning himself 40 pass attempts over the course of three games. Lowe has thrown for just 5.6 yards per attempt with zero touchdowns to two interceptions over those 40 attempts, though. Lowe is a recent transfer from West Virginia still trying to find his footing with the Golden Eagles. Thursday’s game against Florida Atlantic will be Southern Miss’ last of the season, so hopefully Lowe can show some signs of promise headed into next season.
Florida Atlantic vs. Southern Miss Prediction
The Owls are 7-1 against the spread in their last eight games coming off an ATS loss and have covered the number in nine of their last 11 road games. They’re also 4-1 against the spread in their last five games played in December, are 8-3 against the number in their last 11 conference matchups and have cashed in 24 of their last 33 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game.
The Golden Eagles, meanwhile, are just 1-6 against the spread in their last seven home games and have failed to cover in six of their last eight games coming off a loss. They’re also 1-6 at the betting window in their last seven games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game.
