Wisconsin is 1-0 overall and 0-1 against the spread following a 26-21 win over Northern Iowa. Oregon State is playing its first game of the season after its game with Nicholls State was postponed last weekend. Wisconsin has won both meetings with Oregon State.
Trends show that Wisconsin is 0-5 against the spread in their last 5 road games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a win. Oregon State is just 2-6 ATS in its last 8 non-conference games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games at home.
Oddsmakers see Wisconsin as the favorite in this game, as the Badgers have been given odds of -6.5 points on the road. The over/under odds have been set at 52.5 points. (View Matchup) The opening odds had Wisconsin as a 7.5-point favorite and the spread jumped to 8 points during the week before making the fall back to 6.5 points.
Wisconsin got all it could handle from Northern Iowa on Saturday. The Badgers weren’t in real danger of losing, as Northern Iowa scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, but it still wasn’t the dominant showing many expected. Wisconsin had 387 yards of total offense and 168 rushing yards. Montee Ball rushed for only 120 yards on 32 carries to lead the offense while new quarterback, Danny O’Brien, threw for 219 yards on 19-of-23 passing.
Oregon State is coming off a 3-9 season last year, its worst outing in 11 years under Mike Riley. The Beavers have now had back-to-back losing seasons and Riley could be feeling some heat this season. Oregon State does return 16 starters, including seven on offense. Sean Mannion is back at quarterback after throwing for 3,328 yards in 2011. He has three of his top four receivers back this year and his top four rushers. That should help Oregon State improve on its averages of just 21.8 points and 374 yards per game from the 2011 season. On defense, Oregon State gave up 30.8 points and 411 yards per game last year. The Beavers have eight starters back on defense and will be led by defensive end Scott Crichton, who was a Freshman All-American in 2011 with six sacks and 74 tackles.
In terms of Injuries, Wisconsin receiver Chase Hammond and linebacker Vince Biegel are both questionable for this game due to foot injuries. Oregon State comes into the game healthy.
The Public Bets are solidly behind Wisconsin in this game, as the Badgers are getting 79% of the wagers with odds of -6.5 points at Oregon State.
