Tennessee Vols
Tennessee HC Jeremy Pruitt told reporters on Wednesday that redshirt sophomore QB Jarrett Guarantano will be able to play on Saturday against Georgia. Pruitt mentioned that Guarantano has been able to practice, and that he should be “ready to go” against the Bulldogs. The sophomore signal-caller picked up a knee injury and had to leave the game against Florida last weekend, but that likely had as much to do with the score as it did the seriousness of the injury. He’ll have to play his best game — and then some — if they’re going to be competitive with Georgia on Saturday.
Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia sophomore QB Jake Fromm completed 7-of-11 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns when facing a blitz. Fromm had his ups-and-downs in this one but played well when it mattered. His production under pressure was good for an impressive 146.8 passer rating. He holds a 9/1 TD/INT ratio through three games this season and will look to continue his success against Tennessee next weekend.
Betting Trends
Tennessee
The Volunteers are 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games overall and are winless at 0-4 ATS in their last four conference games.
Georgia
The Bulldogs have covered the spread in seven of their last nine games overall and in four of their last five conference matchups.
Prediction
Pruitt might wind up turning Tennessee’s program around at some point but the talent just hasn’t arrived in Knoxville yet. The offensive line is one of the biggest issues facing the Vols, which is a major problem going against the athletes that the Bulldogs have defensively. Meanwhile, the Dawgs have scored at least 40 points on every opponent they’ve played this season and Florida was able to move the ball at will in the first half against Tennessee last week. This is going to be ugly in Athens today.
