Georgia Southern Eagles Game Notes
Georgia Southern quarterback Davis Brin played extremely well in the Eagles’ 49-35 win over UAB last weekend. The former Tulsa QB threw for 318 yards and 2 touchdowns while also adding 18 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. He posted a QBR of 76.1 and averaged 6.8 yards per pass attempt. If Georgia Southern is going to hang in this game, it will likely be because Davis Brin will be making plays.
Georgia Southern linebacker Marques Watson-Trent was seemingly everywhere in his team’s last game. The junior from Pittsburgh racked up 14 total tackles, 8 solo stops, and notched 1.5 tackles for loss in that contest. Georgia Southern held UAB to 3.2 yards per carry last week and they’ll need a similar performance to slow down Wisconsin on Saturday.
Wisconsin Badgers Game Notes
Wisconsin wide receiver Will Pauling was the team’s best skill player in their 31-22 loss at Washington State on Saturday night. He reeled in 5 passes for a game-high 78 yards. For the season, Pauling is second on the team in catches (10), and first on the club in receiving yards (133).
Badgers junior defensive end James Thompson Jr. made his presence felt in Pullman on Saturday. The junior from Cincinnati recorded 5 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 2 tackles for loss in Wisconsin’s losing effort. UAB wasn’t able to sack Davis Brin on Saturday, but Thompson, Jake Chaney, and Maema Njongmeta seem likely to rack up some sacks this weekend.

Georgia Southern vs. Wisconsin Betting Prediction
Wisconsin has looked a little shaky in the early part of this season. The Badgers only led Buffalo 14-10 at halftime before ultimately winning 38-17, and Wisconsin lost 31-22 to Washington State last week in a game where the Badgers were favored by 5 points. The most distressing thing about the Washington State loss was Wisconsin’s inability to run the ball. The Badgers only averaged 3.1 yards per carry against a Washington State defense that ranked 71st in opponent rushing yards per attempt last season. I’m concerned about the Badgers and their ability to beat any team by 20 points or more.
Georgia Southern, on the other hand, has beat their first two opponents (The Citadel and UAB) by a combined score of 83-35. It’s a small sample, but the Eagles are averaging 6.3 yards per play this season, which ranks 26th in the country. It was only last year that Georgia Southern beat Nebraska in Lincoln as 23.5-point underdogs. I doubt Georgia Southern will beat Wisconsin outright, but they won’t have to in order to cover the spread. I’ll take the Eagles and the points in Madison.
