Georgia Bulldogs Game Notes
Georgia redshirt junior QB Stetson Bennett will remain the starter when the Bulldogs return from bye to play Kentucky next week. Georgia HC Kirby Smart, when asked if Bennett remained Georgia’s starter, replied: “I feel great about Stetson. He’s done a good job of managing the situations we have put him in.” Bennett struggled mightily in a 41-24 loss last Saturday to Alabama, going 18-of-40 for 269 yards with two TD and three INTs. The 5-foot-11 Bennett had several balls tipped at the line, though Smart correctly pointed out that pocket awareness and manipulation is a better indicator of tips than height. While Smart will stay with Bennett, it’s clear that the redshirt junior is running out of leash. “This week, we will get to get a lot of guys reps,” Smart said. “JT [Daniels] will get reps, D’Wan [Mathis] will get reps, Stetson will continue to get reps.” Daniels, the USC transfer, has not yet entered a game. But he figures to be next to hear his name called if Bennett’s struggles carry into the Halloween tilt against the Wildcats.
Kentucky Wildcats Game Notes
Kentucky redshirt sophomore QB Joey Gatewood will be the starter for Saturday’s game against Georgia. With QB Terry Wilson officially out due to a wrist injury, Gatewood is set to make his first start. That said, Gatewood (6’4/232) has seen a few snaps over the past couple seasons. Since 2019, Gatewood has thrown 12 passes, two of which found their way into the end zone. Gatewood is a former four-star dual-threat QB recruit in Auburn’s 2018 signing class who transferred to Kentucky late last year. Gatewood’s throwing motion can feel lumbering at times, but he has a very strong arm that can push the ball down the field.
Georgia vs. Kentucky Betting Prediction
The Bulldogs have covered in six of the last seven meetings between these two teams and are 4-1 against the number in their last five games in Lexington. They’re also 20-8 against the number in their last 28 road games, are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games as a favorite and are 16-5 at the betting window in their last 21 games coming off an ATS loss. On the other side, the Wildcats are just 5-11 against the spread in their last 16 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game and are 2-12 against the number in their last 14 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game.
