Godfrey’s up-and-down season continues for UGA

RJ Godfrey supplied six points (2-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-6 FT), three rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal in 21 minutes during Saturday’s 72-62 victory over Oklahoma. In his first season as a starter, Godfrey has been a steady if quiet force for Georgia. He’s only hit double-digit points once, and his rebounding has been somewhat inconsistent as well. Still, it doesn’t appear his role as a starter is in jeopardy anytime soon as Georgia enters the meat of SEC play.

Zeigler struggles last time on big stage

Zakai Zeigler closed with 10 points (4-12 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 1-2 FT), two rebounds, one assist and two steals over 36 minutes during Tuesday’s 73-43 loss to Florida. Zeigler is typically one of the most consistent distributors in the country, as his 7.5 apg average is tops in the SEC and fifth in the nation. That came to a grinding halt Tuesday in a tough road matchup, as the Tennessee offense was held to a season-low 43 points — a full 21 points less than its previous season worst. Chalk this one up as an anomaly for the point guard of the nation’s No. 1-ranked team, but note that the going is about to get tougher with several Final Four contenders lurking in the SEC. Zeigler will look to rebound in another road matchup against Texas on Saturday.
