Hawaii at 6-1
Hawaii has started the season 6-1 following a 17-13 win over Wyoming last weekend. The Warriors are just 3-3-1 against the spread and 4-3 with the over. They are 1-1-1 against the spread on the road.
Per usual, Hawaii is led by offense this season while struggling on defense. The Warriors are averaging 38.4 points and 468.4 yards per game on offense this year, including 322.3 passing yards per game. Cole McDonald had to sit out last week with an injury, but is ready to go this week. He has thrown for 2,100 yards and 24 touchdowns with just two interceptions. He also has run for 227 yards and two scores. John Ursua has caught 55 passes for 801 yards and 12 touchdowns. Defensively, Hawaii is giving up 29.6 points and 410.7 yards per game. That includes just under 160 rushing yards per game.
BYU on a skid
BYU is coming off back-to-back losses to Washington and Utah State the last two weeks, losing each game by over 20 points. The Cougars are 3-3 overall, 3-3 against the spread and 5-1 with the under.
The Cougars are struggling on offense this year, putting up just 21.2 points and 306 yards per contest. Tanner Mangum has thrown for 1,042 yards and five touchdowns and three interceptions. Squally Canada is the leading rusher on the team with 334 yards and five touchdowns on 71 carries. Defensively, BYU is giving up 24.7 points and 360.8 yards per contest. They are allowing 164 rushing yards per contest.
College Football Betting Trends
Hawaii
The Warriors are just 1-6-1 against the spread in their last eight road games and 1-4-2 ATS in their last seven non-conference games.
BYU
BYU is just 2-8 ATS in its last 10 home games and 3-8 ATS in its last 11 games against a team with a winning record.
Prediction:
Is Hawaii legit? We should find out tonight. The Warriors have lost four straight in this series and failed to cover in the last three. Hawaii’s pass game sure seems legit, but the Warriors lone loss did come against a physical Army team on the road. They couldn’t stop the run of the Knights. BYU has been overwhelmed in recent weeks and its defense isn’t quite what we normally expect, but I think the Cougars get the job done. Their physicality should pose a problem for Hawaii, which is a team that hasn’t traveled well over the years.
