(The Spread) – The Stanford Cardinal have the favorite to win the 2011 Heisman Trophy, but will that be enough to contend for the BCS National Championship?
Andrew Luck has the eyes of the NFL on him this season after passing up the draft to return for his junior season. Luck, however, is without Jim Harbaugh, and working with new coach David Shaw. Shaw has 12 starter back from the 2010 football team that went 12-1 on the season.
According to oddsmakers, Stanford has 20/1 odds to win the 2012 BCS National Championship while the Cardinal have 8/5 odds to win the PAC-12 and 3/2 odds to win the PAC-12 North Division. Oddsmakers have set Stanford’s over/under win total at 9 games.

Luck threw for 3,338 yards and 32 touchdowns with just 8 interceptions in 2010. He is considered the most pro ready quarterback in college football and is the favorite to win the Heisman, with 9/2 odds to win according to oddsmakers. Luck will have running back Stepfan Taylor back this year. Taylor rushed for 1,137 yards and 15 touchdowns. The Stanford defense gave us just 17.4 points and 323 yards per game last season and has six starters back from that group.
Stanford has one national title in program history, coming back in 1926. The Cardinal have claimed 12 conference titles, the last of which came in 1999. Stanford won double-digit games for the first time since 1992 last season. This season, Stanford will face Notre Dame in non-conference play while heading to USC and Arizona in PAC-12 play and hosting conference foes Oregon and Colorado.
Stanford was 8-4-1 against the spread last season, their third straight season with a winning record against the spread. The Cardinal was 4-1-1 against the spread on the road. On the over/under total, Stanford hit the over in 7 of 13 lined games, including 5 of its 7 home games.
