Bettors siding with MSU, history sides with Iowa
History will be on Iowa’s side when the Hawkeyes take on Michigan State in Saturday night’s Big Ten Championship Game.
ESPN.com college football reporter Mitch Sherman tweets that in the four matchups in which Michigan State and Iowa have squared off as ranked teams, the Hawkeyes are 4-0 in those games.
The most recent meeting between the two teams came in 2010 when Iowa crushed the then-fifth-ranked Spartans 37-6. It was Michigan State’s worst loss as a top-5 team. The overall series also belongs to Iowa, which is 23-20-2 against MSU all-time.
Over course, none of this is stopping bettors from backing Michigan State on Saturday night. Our College Football Public Betting page shows that 77% of wagers for the Big Ten Championship Game are currently on the Spartans, who are 3.5-point favorites according to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI. The public believes the Hawkeyes’ record is hollow due to a soft schedule, and they’ll continue to fade Iowa until (a possible) bitter end.
