Indiana Hoosiers Game Notes
Indiana redshirt sophomore QB Michael Penix Jr. completed 30-of-50 passes for 342 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-21 victory over Michigan on Saturday. Penix Jr. (6’3/202) was lethal today leading Indiana on touchdown drives in all four quarters. The Hoosier offense bled Michigan dry by converting nine-of-18 third down situations and holding the ball for a staggering 38:50 of game time. The southpaw signal caller peppered his favorite receivers Ty Fryfogle and Whop Philyor with targets, kept the chains moving and played turnover-free football. His 50 pass attempts are a new career high, eclipsing his former high of 42 attempts against Michigan State last September. Coincidentally, Indiana travels to East Lansing next Saturday to take on the Spartans of Michigan State.
Michigan State Spartans Game Notes
Michigan State redshirt junior RB Connor Heyward caught two passes for 15 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 28 yards on 13 carries in Saturday’s 27-24 win over Michigan. Heyward (6’0/233) wasn’t able to get much done on the ground, as he averaged just 2.2 yards per carry on the afternoon. But the redshirt junior made the most of his opportunities in the passing game, as he managed to reach the end zone on both of his receptions. Jordon Simmons had a slightly better day running the ball for the Spartans, as he accounted for 55 yards on 14 carries (28 were gained on one play). Heyward and the Spartans return to action next weekend when they face Iowa.
