Iowa State Cyclones Game Notes
Iowa State junior QB Brock Purdy completed 16-of-20 passes for 236 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-0 victory over Kansas State on Saturday. Purdy (6’1/212) was in complete control all afternoon, completing 80 percent of his passes for 11.8 yards per attempt while racking up an insurmountable 35-0 halftime lead before calling off the dogs in the second half. Iowa State held the ball for a suffocating 36:55 of game time while racking up 539 yards of offense. His two best throws came on a six-yard dart to Charlie Kolar in the back of the end zone that was just out of the reach of the defender, and a 21-yard fade in the corner of the end zone that was placed where only Xavier Hutchinson could have caught it for the score. The Cyclones have a huge matchup next Friday against the Longhorns in Austin.
Texas Longhorns Game Notes
Texas junior WR Josh Moore (shoulder) and sophomore TE Jared Wiley (shoulder) are both considered to be probable for Friday’s game vs. Iowa State. Neither Moore (6’1/169) nor Wiley (6’7/256) were available for the Longhorns’ most recent game, a November 7 home win over West Virginia. But with nearly three weeks off due to an open week and the postponement of their game at Kansas, Texas appears ready to welcome back the two pass-catchers. Moore is Texas’ best wide receiver, as he leads the team in receptions (22), receiving yards (343) and touchdown receptions (seven). Wiley has caught seven passes for 152 yards.
Iowa State vs. Texas Betting Prediction
With this looking like a coin flip in regards to the spread, I see more value in the total. The under has cashed in five straight series meetings and is 6-1 in the last seven meetings between these two programs when the game is in Austin. The under is also 20-4-2 in the Cyclones’ last 26 games coming off a win, is 15-5-1 in their last 21 road games and is 20-6-1 in their last 27 games when facing an opponent with a winning record. On the other side, the under is 39-16 in the Longhorns’ last 55 games versus a team with a winning record and is 20-8 in their last 28 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game.
