Florida State does return eight starters on offense this season, but has to replace quarterback Christian Ponder, who threw for 2,044 yards and 20 touchdowns. Ponder was a first round draft pick in the NFL, but will be replaced by junior E.J. Manuel. Manuel filled in for Ponder when he was hurt last season and threw for 861 yards and four scores while also rushing for 170 yards and a touchdown. Manuel will have FSU’s top nine receiving leaders and top three rushers back from the 2010 team to help him along. On defense, the Seminoles also return eight starters from a group that allowed just 19.6 points and 354 yards per game in 2010. Leading the team will be defensive end Brandon Jenkins, who had 13.5 sacks in 2010.
FSU owns two national championships and 15 conference titles in program history. The last national title came in 1999 and the last conference crown came in 2005. Florida State has won at least 10 games just two times over the last 10 seasons. This season, FSU will play Oklahoma at home in non-conference play and then also head to Florida to end the regular season. In ACC play, FSU travels to Clemson while hosting Miami. The Seminoles would only see Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship.
For the spread, Florida State was 8-6 against the spread in 2010. The Seminoles were 4-3 against the spread at home and on the road. FSU has been 60-66 against the spread over the last 10 seasons. In over/under action, the Seminoles hit the under in 9 of 14 games. FSU hit the under in 5 of 7 homes games and 8 of 13 games played on grass.
