KANSAS STATE: Bill Snyder said he doesn’t know when redshirt junior QB Jesse Ertz (knee) will return, but that it’s possible it could be this weekend against Kansas. Ertz has missed the last two games with a knee injury. In his place, Alex Delton was rock solid in last Saturday’s 42-35 loss to Oklahoma. Snyder reaffirmed that Ertz is the team’s No. 1 quarterback when healthy. Ertz wasn’t seen on the sideline during the game. “Jesse is healthier now,” Snyder said. “I’m not sure where we’ll be and won’t know that … at some point in time in the week we will but I’m not sure when. He’s back on his feet and going pretty well right now.” As of this writing, 75% of public bettors are backing the Wildcats on Saturday.
KANSAS: Redshirt junior signal-caller Peyton Bender completed 7-of-16 passes for 38 yards in Saturday’s 43-0 loss to TCU. This was about as bad of a team offensive performance as you will see this season. The Jayhawks managed just four first downs in the defeat, -25 yards rushing (including sacks) and 21 total yards (again, with sack-yardage subtracted). They averaged 0.4 yards per play against the Horned Frogs. We could go on, but you get the idea. Bender and company will try for a rebound against Kansas State next weekend. They’ve been outscored a combined 88-0 by Iowa State and TCU over the last two games.
OUR PREDICTION: The over has cashed in seven of the last eight meetings between these two teams in Lawrence and is 6-1 in the last seven meetings overall. The over is also 9-4 in the Wildcats’ last 13 games overall, is 46-20 in their last 66 games coming off a loss, and is 5-1 in their last six games versus a team with a losing record. On the other side, the over is 4-0 in the Jayhawks’ last four home games, is 6-2 in their last eight games overall, and is 6-0 in their last six games played on fieldturf.
