Kansas State Wildcats Game Notes
Kansas State freshman QB Will Howard completed 17-of-24 passes for 243 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday’s 55-14 victory over Kansas. What a performance by the true freshman. Howard averaged a tick over 10 yards per attempt, didn’t turn the ball over and gained 23 yards on the ground. This game was 20-7 near the end of the second quarter before Kansas State stopped committing unforced errors and put its foot on pedal. Howard (6’4/220) has seized control of the starting spot after starter Skylar Thompson was knocked out for the season with a right arm injury. The three-star 2020 recruit has a tricker assignment next time around at West Virginia.
West Virginia Mountaineers Game Notes
West Virginia redshirt junior QB Jarret Doege completed 32-of-50 passes for 347 yards with a touchdown in a 34-27 loss to Texas Tech on Saturday. These certainly aren’t bad numbers — on the contrary — but this could have been a much, much bigger game if the West Virginia wideouts would have helped. The Mountaineers dropped no fewer than seven passes, and several of those drops came on plays that would have resulted in big gains. It wasn’t a perfect game from the 6-foot-2, 198-pound signal-caller, but he deserved better. The brother of former Texas Tech quarterback Seth Doege, Jarret wanted to play at Texas Tech but wasn’t offered, so this will assuredly be a disappointing loss for the redshirt junior. Not that anyone likes losing. The Mountaineers will try and rebound next Saturday against Kansas State.
