Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Longhorns are 7.5-point favorites to beat the Wildcats. The total, meanwhile, sits at 49 points. As of this writing, 59% of the public betting tickets wagered on this matchup are on the Longhorns.
Texas Longhorns
Texas OC and quarterbacks coach Tim Beck is in the hospital (infection) and will not be available for Saturday’s game against Kansas State. Beck is in the hospital receiving treatment for an infection, but he’s expected to be back with the team on Sunday after the Kansas State game. HC Tom Herman said, “We’ll pull together as coaches, and our offensive staff will call plays collaboratively.” Beck’s absence is a hit to the offense, but Tom Herman and the rest of his staff will be ready.
Kansas State Wildcats
Kansas State junior QB Alex Delton is expected to start against Texas on Saturday. Here’s an interesting one. Skylar Thompson drew the start against West Virginia over the weekend, but midway through the game, Wildcats HC Bill Snyder opted to swap him out for Delton. Neither quarterback saw this coming, leading to an awkward postgame in which Thompson was clearly irritated at Snyder’s tact, while Delton admitted to being caught off-guard. Regardless, it looks like we may have a sea change, here, as Kellis Robinett is passing along that the junior signal-caller received the majority of first-team snaps on Monday as the team looks to move in his direction. If we’re being completely honest, neither quarterback option takes our breath away.
Betting Trends
Texas
The Longhorns are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven road games.
Kansas State
The Wildcats have failed to cover the spread in four of their last five home games.
Prediction
Kansas State has not played well to start the season but the Wildcats are undervalued here. For starters, the home team is 5-0-1 at the betting window in the last six meetings between these two teams. The Longhorns are also 2-8-1 against the number in their last 11 games and are winless at 0-5 against the spread in their last five trips to Manhattan. In fact, Texas hasn’t even won (forget covering the spread) at Kansas State since 2002. Granted, this Wildcats team is one of the worst that Bill Snyder has rolled out but his defense should be able to contain a Texas offense that won’t have its regular play-caller this afternoon.
College Football Prediction: Kansas State Wildcats +7.5
