Liberty Flames Game Notes
Liberty have earned a spot on the Associated Press Top-25 poll for the first time in school history. Liberty moved to 6-0 last weekend, but it was not until this week that they got pushed up the polls enough to crack the 25. Though they just barely make it at the 25th spot, this is a monumental period in school history. The Flames have never appeared in the top-25 in school history, so doing so now is a major accomplishment. Transfer QB Malik Willis, who used to play for Auburn, has been instrumental in the team’s success. Willis has thrown nine touchdowns to just one pick this year. He has also run in another six touchdowns. Liberty will take on Virginia Tech next week to defend their undefeated streak.
Virginia Tech Hokies Game Notes
Virginia Tech redshirt junior QB Hendon Hooker completed 10-of-10 passes for 183 yards and carried 19 times for 68 yards and three rushing touchdowns in a 42-35 victory over Louisville on Saturday. Hooker (6’4/220) wasn’t asked to do much in the air beyond keep Louisville from stacking the box, but he was perfect when he did throw. He was used as a short yardage battering ram to devastating effect, as his rushing touchdowns of one, two and six yards came on straight-ahead inside dives. This is the second time this year that the redshirt junior signal caller has rushed for three scores in a game, with the other being against BC back on October 17. Virginia Tech hosts Liberty next Saturday in their last non-conference game of the year.
Liberty vs. Virginia Tech Betting Prediction
The Flames are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games overall, are 19-7 against the number in their last 26 games as an underdog and they’ve covered in six of their last eight games against ACC foes. On the other side, the Hokies are just 1-4 against the spread in their last five non-conference games, are 0-4 against the number in their last four games coming off a win and have failed to cover in seven of their last nine games as a favorite.
