Louisville Game Notes
Louisville is led by their do-everything quarterback Malik Cunningham. The senior from Montgomery, Alabama has thrown for 1,477 yards and run for 541 yards on the season. Cunningham is fifth in the ACC in rushing yards and second in rushing touchdowns on the year. A true dual-threat QB, Malik Cunningham is a big reason why Louisville is currently riding a three-game winning streak.
Louisville’s defense is better than you may think. The Cardinals are only allowing 5 yards per play this year, which ranks 33rd out of 131 FBS teams. Their ferocious pass rush helps force opponents into negative plays. Louisville ranks fifth in the nation in sacks per game (3.6) and third in the country in sack percentage (11.03%). Louisville has 7 players with at least 2 sacks on the season, but they’re led by senior defensive lineman YaYa Diaby, who’s recorded 6 sacks on the campaign. The Cardinals’ defense may be why they cover this contest.
Clemson Game Notes
Clemson got trounced at Notre Dame 35-14 on Saturday. Tigers quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei had his second poor performance in a row, throwing an interception and posting a QBR of 33.9 against the Fighting Irish. In Clemson’s game against Syracuse two weeks ago, Uiagalelei was benched in favor of freshman QB Cade Klubnik. Klubnik did enter the Notre Dame game this past Saturday, but he promptly threw an interception and was removed from the game. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has downplayed any possibility of a quarterback controversy, but if D.J. Uiagalelei struggles again, Swinney might be forced to play Cade Klubnik sooner rather than later.
The Tigers’ defense is still solid though, as they have six players with at least two sacks on the campaign. Their leading sack man is junior defensive end Myles Murphy, who’s recorded 6.5 sacks this season in addition to a forced fumble and 2 passes defended. He’ll need to pressure Malik Cunningham to prevent big chunk plays for Clemson to win and cover this game.
Louisville vs. Clemson Betting Trends
Louisville is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
Louisville is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against teams with a winning record.
Clemson is 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games following an ATS loss.
Clemson is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games after scoring fewer than 20 points in their previous game.
Louisville vs. Clemson Betting Prediction
Clemson has been looking vulnerable for weeks now. They beat Florida State and Syracuse by a combined 12 points and then got destroyed at Notre Dame last week by 21 points. Tigers quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei has been plagued by inconsistent play all season, and it’s possible he gets benched again just as he did in the Syracuse game. I think Louisville’s defense is underrated and that their quarterback Malik Cunningham is capable of making enough plays to win and/or cover this game. I’ll take the Cardinals and the points.
