LSU Tigers Game Notes
LSU freshman QB TJ Finley completed 17-of-21 passes for 265 yards with two touchdowns and an interception while adding a rushing score in a 52-24 rout of South Carolina on Saturday. Finley made the start in the place of Myles Brennan, who was ruled out with an abdominal injury. It wasn’t a flawless start, but all things considered, this was a very impressive debut for the 6-foot-6, 242-pound freshman. Both of his touchdowns went to Terrace Marshall, and he added a rushing score in a game that was pretty much all Tigers from the go. The question now is what the Tigers do at quarterback when Brennan is ready to go; as it would be hard to blame him for the struggles of the LSU defense that caused a 1-2 start. If Brennan is healthy he likely starts, but Finley could be under center next Saturday when the Tigers face Auburn.
Auburn Tigers Game Notes
Auburn sophomore QB Bo Nix completed 23-of-30 passes for 238 yards with a touchdown in a 35-28 win on Saturday over Ole Miss. Nix was quiet for most of Saturday’s game, but came up huge for Auburn when it needed it most. After taking a silly sack on the first play of a drive that began with the Tigers trailing 28-27, the 6-foot-2, 207-pound orchestrated a game-winning touchdown drive that was punctuated with a 42-yard touchdown to Seth Williams that gave Auburn a much needed victory. Nix has not taken the step forward that many expected thus far after a solid — if unspectacular — freshman campaign, but the last drive was a reminder of his talent. Nix and the Tigers move to 3-2, and have a date with LSU on October 31.
