LSU Tigers Game Notes

LSU starting nickel back Greg Brooks Jr. underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor, so he’ll miss Saturday’s game and the rest of the season. The redshirt senior had 8 total tackles and 2 passes defended in two games of action for the Tigers this season.

LSU starting cornerback Zy Alexander is questionable for Saturday’s game against Mizzou with an undisclosed injury. Alexander is sixth on the team with 23 total tackles this season and is one of four LSU players to register an interception this year. If LSU is thin in the secondary, Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III, (who leads the FBS with 644 receiving yards) could be in for a big day.

 Missouri Tigers Game Notes

As mentioned above, Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III leads the FBS in receiving yards. He’s also tied for second in the nation in receptions (43) and tied for fourth in touchdown catches (5). Burden went off against Vanderbilt last week as he reeled in 11 passes for 140 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Tigers secured a resounding 38-21 road win.

The defensive star for Mizzou in that game was sophomore defensive back Daylan Carnell. In last week’s game, Carnell led the club with 7 total tackles and added a pass break-up for good measure. Carnell and the rest of Missouri’s secondary will have to be on point to contain LSU WR Malik Nabers this weekend.

LSU is 4-6 ATS in their last 10 games.

The over is 9-1 in LSU’s last 10 games.

The over is 7-3 in Missouri’s last 10 games.

Missouri is 10-8 ATS since the beginning of last season.

LSU vs. Missouri Betting Prediction

The last time these two teams played each other was 2020. Missouri was a 14-point underdog at home but ended up winning the game outright 45-41. I could see a similar scenario playing out on Saturday. Both LSU and Missouri have high-powered offenses, as both teams rank in the top 25 nationally in yards per play. But the chief difference between them is their defenses.

LSU is ranked 116th out of 133 FBS teams in opponent yards per play. The Bayou Bengals also rank 113th in opponent points per play. You could chalk some of that up to the strength of their opponents, but those figures are concerning, especially when facing an offense on the road that’s as good as Missouri’s is. I think the over on the total of 65 is worth a look, but I’ll roll with Mizzou at home this weekend as the pick.
