Maryland Terps Game Notes
Maryland sophomore QB Taulia Tagovailoa completed 36-of-35 passes for 394 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in Friday’s 45-45 overtime upset over Minnesota. What a turnaround from last week for Tagovailoa. After a three-interception debut, many were wondering if Tagovailoa would even retain his job. HC Mike Locksley assured that he would, and boy was he proven right for that decision. Tagovailoa shredded the Gophers defense, earning almost 12 yards per pass attempt while sprinkling in a cool 64 yards and two scores on the ground. He was everything Terrapins fans were hoping he could be. Maryland will be looking to upset Penn State next week.
Penn State Nittany Lions Game Notes
Penn State redshirt junior QB Sean Clifford completed 18-of-30 passes for 281 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception in Saturday’s 38-25 loss to Ohio State. On the one hand, Clifford finished this game stronger than he has finished most games this year. On the other hand, the Penn State offense looked mostly inept for three quarters, before a fourth-quarter run of points bailed them out on the final scoreboard. Clifford was not outright bad, and he did not throw his interception until the end of the game when the outcome was all but certain, but he struggled to connect on enough passes early to keep the Nittany Lions in this one for most of the night. Perhaps Clifford can bounce back next week against a surprisingly scrappy Maryland team.
